Context of Lord of the flies

Context now,
In the novel Lord of the flies by William Golding, there are three parts of the main context,a group of children 's survival on a deserted island .The context ,in the end, proves vital to the conflict of the boys and imagination of the reader.

The first part of this novel's context is the main part. A group of evacuated children on an unknown island after they encounter a crash landing. The quote by Ralph "This is an island. At least I think it's an island. That's a reef out in the sea. Perhaps there aren't any grownups anywhere," shows the fact that the island is unknown to the children and that there are no people that can tell them what to do. This sets the tone for the rest of the book.

The second part of this novel's context is the exploitation of freedom and a ruleless society. This ruleless group, deprived of proper civilisation, eventually resorts to being savage. Eventually savagery gets the best of the group and they split in to two groups. In the quotes "We'll raid them and take fire. There must be four of you; Henry and you, Robert and Maurice. We'll put on paint and sneak up," portrays that Jack's faction group resort to savagery by doing even small steriotypical things like bad grammar or paint on their faces. This quote shows clearly how the faction pushes them deeper into savagery. In the end their lack of rules made them resort to savagery and violence.

The third part of this novel's context is when it was written. This book was written in 1954 which has a major effect on the context of this book. It was written based on experiences he had heard about World War II, which was when these children's evacuation plane was shot down. Although savagery was his ideas. This is proved with subtelty mostly in the first chapter of the novel. For example their referral to the crash site as "the scar" that his writing has a subtle twist to it and that the context of when it was written has a lot to do with not only this book but also the world at the time. "We was attacked!......When we was coming down I looked through one of them windows. I saw the other part of the plane. There were flames coming out of it." In this quote Golding suggests that it was shot down by a war plane. The context of World War II is also proven in this quote.
